How You Can Help

There are a variety of other ways that individuals and organizations can help in the work that Family Violence Prevention Center of Orange County does. A few options are listed below but if you have a different idea on how you or your organization can help, please let us know.

FVPC is a private, non-profit agency. Our funding comes from a variety of sources including of state and federal agencies as well as local resources such as Orange County, The Towns of Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Hillsborough. But a significant portion of our annual operating budget comes from private contributions. Private contributions allow us to help fund client needs that are not covered by our other funding such as temporary shelter or groceries or gas for emergency use.

Donate...

· $25 allows a taxi ride to court for one client without transportation.
· $75 provides one night of emergency shelter and food for a victim of domestic violence and their two children.
· $150 pays for one month of fees for our answering service which allows us to accept calls 24-hours a day and then re-routes the call to a trained volunteer.
· $200 helps to cover the cost of training one volunteer during our 45-hour bi-annual volunteer training.
· $500 allows us to offer one 10-week domestic violence victim's support group.
· $1000 covers the cost of presenting ten sessions of Save The Date violence prevention program in Orange County and Chapel Hill-Carrboro high schools.

Cell Phone Program

You can also help by starting a cell phone drive at your office or church. FVPC has been collecting used cell phones for six years. The phones are sold to Shelter Alliance in Florida which purchases them from domestic violence organizations. This opportunity provides a funding stream that is not available at the local level. All types of cell phones are accepted. FVPC recycles what is not needed (boxes/manuals, chargers) at Orange County Recycling Center. Not only are people in need helped but so is the environment! This is a completely green program! Click here to learn how!

Individuals can help by dropping off their cell phones at Whole Foods Market, at the UNC campus in the student union (near Alpine Bagel), or in the Hedrick building at the Friday Center.

Volunteer

You can also help by volunteering! Volunteers contribute over 8000 hours annually to Family Violence Prevention Center. We could not do our work without them.
